Sun Microsystems’s Sun (no pun intended) seems to be on the rise. They’ve declared a profit after a very long time and now, ISC, the guys who manage the F-root DNS server have just declared they’ll be hosting it on a Sun Fire x64 box running Solaris 10. Nice!
I need news like this from time to time; [...]

Towelie

For those of us South Park fans, you’ll know Towelie’s catch-phrase is, “I have no idea what’s going on right now.”
Why am I blogging about Towelie this fine Thursday morning? Well, dear friends, reading this from 37signals reminded me of dear old T. If you don’t want to click on the link, Sam at 37signals [...]
Wireless guide to US airports
September 19th, 2006 · Comments Off
For those road warriors, a guide to 218 US airports’ wireless networks or lack thereof. Those airports which don’t have free wireless should be closed (yeah, I’m talking about you, BWI, and you, MDW and ORD!) Bastards.

Exchange administration

Not much going currently, at least in the Exchange part of the house. I’ve gone ahead and simply turned off all diagnostic logging for the SMTP service since there are no actual problems sending mail between the front-end and back-end servers. Solaris security

Trying not to lose touch completely with my former bread and butter OS, Solaris. No, it’s not Slowaris, dumkopf. That was for the FreeBSD sysadmins at Verio, Boca. Especially you, Dragan.
Currently downloading the latest Solaris x86 DVD and looking around Sun’s site, I was almost overcome with nostalgia: an OS that didn’t require the services [...]

Snakes and wireless on a plane
April 29th, 2006 · Comments Off
No doubt you have heard of the new movie with Sam Jackson tentatively titled Snakes On A Plane, right? Well, this story (thanks, digg.com) is a bit tamer, having to do with Boeing’s new satellite wireless connectivity called Connexxion.
Using BGP (what else, really?), this guy’s Lufthansa Boeing aircraft flying west across the Atlantic, withdrew it’s Internet [...]
